Residency Visas

Buying a house in Turkey does not give you immediate citizenship or rights to citizenship. A residency visa will be required upon entry to Turkey. A three month residency visa is available at the entry airport, or for longer periods of time a one year residency permit can be applied for from the Turkish Consulate in Knightsbridge, London prior to entry.

This application must be made a minimum of 8 weeks before departure to allow the relevant standard checks to be carried out. You must take a fully completed visa application form (download from Turkish Consulate website www.turkishconsulate.org.uk), your passport style photograph and cash money as other forms of payment will not be accepted. Prices vary according to your status – further details are on the consulate website. As from 16th May 2006 an online appointment system will be available.

Be prepared to return after 3 days to collect your papers. Once here in Turkey, you will have to apply to the Aydin Police Headquarters for your residency permit to be ratified.

For application within Turkey you will need 5 passport style photographs (which you can get in any local photo shop), your TAPU ( Title Deeds) and a photocopy of your TAPU, your visa, your passport and up to 2 copies of the photograph page, and cash money in Turkish Lira. Take the above to Aydin Police Headquarters. You will be asked to complete a form and to pay an administration fee of 70 Ytl. You will be given a receipt which you must take to the local government office where you will pay the residence permit fee for which you also re ceive a receipt. Take this receipt back to the police station and give it to the applications officer. You will be asked to return approximately 1 week later to collect your residency visa.
